The Garner Generals represent the competitive division of baseball for Garner Sports League, primarily located out of garner, North Carolina but participating in tournaments in the Raleigh area or within a short drive of the Raleigh area, such as Oxford, Wake Forest, Fuquay-Varina, Clemmons, Wilson and occasionally travel destinations like Myrtle Beach.
The Generals are a competitive, travel baseball program that requires players to try out and provides a higher level of competition and commitment than our Recreational program. We compete at the D2 and D3 level, which is a higher time and financial commitment than our Recreational division. The Generals are perfect for those families wanting to get into Travel Baseball, and/or looking to just play more baseball, and at a competitive level.
Garner Generals provide a positive environment for players to learn good sportsmanship, teamwork, and physical well-being through quality instruction and healthy competition while fostering a love of the game!
Coached by experienced volunteer coaching staffs, Generals teams train up to 3-4 times a week, and compete in tournaments on average, twice a month throughout each season (Fall/Spring). Positions within the Generals Program are year-long commitments, with tournaments running from Mid-March through October. Off season training typically runs November through December, until the teams begin to ramp up for their first tournament to kick-off the next season.
All players interested in playing in our Generals program must attend the age group specific bi-annual try-out in November (for the Spring Season) or July/August (for the Fall Season). Players unable to participate in a teams’ bi-annual try-outs may request a supplemental try-out by contacting the appropriate age group head coach. We strongly encourage all players to attend one of the b-iannual try-outs, if at all possible, as that will give players the best opportunity to be seen and evaluated by our coaches.
Held in late July, following most Recreational All-Star seasons, Generals tryouts are held each year to aid in the formation of all Generals teams. Players are evaluated on the field by the Generals, age specific Coaching Staff over the course of a few open practices, or specific evaluation days. Using the results of these tryouts – in conjunction with coach evaluations and depth charts from previous season – our coaching staff forms their team, and sends offers to players to participate on their team for the upcoming season. Generals tryouts are open to any and all players that wish to be a part of the Generals Travel Program, however placement within the Generals Program is not guaranteed.
*Supplemental Tryouts and Individual Assessments are used exclusively to add to existing Generals rosters, provided space is available. All team formation occurs at the the Seasonal Open Tryouts and there is no guarantee of space being available in an age group after the initial tryout process is completed.
